Stealurheart: About Us
Kennel History
I'm Margaret Johnson, but prefer to be called by my nickname "Becky". I have owned Pomeranians for the past 35 years. I first became interested in Pomeranians in 1989 when I had had my first apartment. I was looking for a companion dog who would warn me of any strange sounds around and help keep both of us safe. I had always been attracted to cute fuzzy dogs and when I saw my first picture of a pom in a dog book that was the dog I had to have. In June 1989, I brought home my first pom, a 8 week old bit of fun who was never out of my sight when not working for longer than a minute. As Becky and Bandit we were an inseparable team.
A couple of years after I brought Bandit home, he was tragically killed by the neighbor’s 4 month old puppy who had gotten into our yard. I was devastated, inconsolably crying, and the next day I called his breeder John Cribbs to tell him what tragically had happened. He told me that I should not be pom-less and that he had a close to 6 month old pom that he had been holding for show but would let us have if we wanted. I was not prepared for a new puppy so soon but we drove to Richmond and brought home (Ch.) Twin Pines Chico- Mikey and that started our venture into Show poms. Mikey was handled by Margaret McKee of Idlewyld poms, who bred his sire, and has become my "pom mom" over the years.
I later obtained my first girl, Diamond Girl V, who was bred to one of Margaret's stud dogs, Daybreak's Little Deuce Coupe, for my first litter, which produced (Ch.) Stealurheart's Encore aka Dito (short for Bandito after my first pom). Diamond was also bred to Mikey and produced Ch. Stealurheart's Joy of Sunrise, and he sired Ch. Idlewyld Treasure Trove for Margaret.
Showing the dogs took me to the nationals where I saw Chris and John Heartz's Ch Chriscendo Chunky Monkey take Winners Bitch in 2003 which made me determined to actually complete my dream of owning something descended from the Chriscendo family, a dream that had begun years ago when I encountered a daughter of their Ch. Chriscendo Calvin Klein. Following that show with the help of my friend Liz Heckert (Silhouette) I met with Judy Green (Razzle Dazzle) who graciously let me have Razzle Dazzle Sound of Music – Kendall, a Colt daughter. I also bred a "Mikey" granddaughter from Margaret, Idlewyld U've Got A Friend "Amie", to Colt, which produced my Ch. Stealurheart's Call of the Heart "Desiree". Kendall was bred to Am/Can Ch. Chriscendo Communicado, which produced Ch. Razzle Dazzle Straight from the Heart "Beefcake" who finished with 5 majors.
It was at that point that my breeding program began to focus on dogs that are closely related to Colt and Chad and so when Pat Murk presented the opportunity to own Can Ch Diogenior’s Projected Light N NRG – aka NRG, who was bred and shown by Lisa Stasiuk and Mike Carbno, in 2009, I was simply delighted. I'd never owned a stud dog before then and had only bred to others' boys. I've been really impressed with NRG in that he has a wonderful strong front, is up on leg which is wonderful for those girls who tend to be a little longer, has a pretty face and best of all at nine years old is in fabulous coat.
At this time I have girls from several different lines with the common thread being that most of them eventually end up in some way in dogs related to Chriscedo, Foxworth, or Idlewyld. It's been a real adventure as in 2009-2010 I bred most of my girls to NRG, and through that I’ve really been able to see what NRG does when bred as there is a common thread in the pups produced. He seems to be producing pups that are up on leg which I find is very important as I've observed that we are getting more dogs who are low on leg. He seems to be putting nice coat on his pups and hopefully they will follow in his pawprints with keeping it. He also seems to be improving structure for the most part. He also produces consistently sweet dispositions and happy outgoing pups. So it’s really been a fun venture.
We look forward to hitting the ring with NRG kids very soon.
